Rodruck or Roderick Family
First GenerationLudwig Rodruck (1723-1797) was the son of Johannes Rothrock and Anna Margaretha Kreiling, who came from Leiselheim, near Worms. Ludwig's two older brothers, Philip Jacob and Johannes, immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1733, and Johannes Sr. followed with the younger children in 1736. Ludwig and the youngest brother, Andrew, both moved to Maryland.Ludwig's first land purchase in Frederick Co. MD was in 1762. His wife Catherine is first mentioned in a deed in 1763, but no record has been found of her maiden name. They are in Washington Co. MD in the 1790 census, and Ludwig died there in 1797. Catherine , and his first land purchase there is on 16 June 1762 (Frederick Co. Book H, p. 29). There were 11 subsequent purchases and sales, the last being in 1771. His wife Catherine is first mentioned in a 1763 deed. Most records concerning Ludwig and Andrew spell their name Rodruck. The Rothrock spelling was retained by sons of their older brother Philip Jacob who moved to North Carolina. For more on those families, see the Rothrock page.
Children of Ludwig and Catherine Rodruck These children are listed in the order in which they appear in their father's will.
Second GenerationLewis Rodruck traveled from Virginia to Coshocton Co. Ohio with his sons Levi and Zale in 1809, then returned to Virginia for the rest of the family in 1811. He served in the War of 1812 from Coshocton County. Although his name often appears in public documents etc. as Lewis, he himself still signed it Ludwick as late as 1862. The Rodruck spelling becomes Rodrick and then Roderick in Ohio.
